Fiction by Adrienne Stevenson

Mirrors & Smoke

Mirrors & Smoke

A story of one woman’s courage and perseverance to save her family when the United States invades Canada.

Rebecca Plummer is an herbalist and midwife in Niagara, Upper Canada. Her situation both before and during the War of 1812 is complicated by her feminist attitude and activities to help other women, both of which run counter to the colonial establishment.

Rebecca’s story is based on real people and events, blended with fictional elements, told from the lesser-known Canadian point of view.

This novel should appeal to readers of colonial period fiction such as Sara Donati’s “Wilderness” series or Napoleonic War era fiction like Bernard Cornwell’s “Sharpe” series!
