Mirrors & Smoke

Mirrors & Smoke

A story of one woman’s courage and perseverance to save her family when the United States invades Canada.

Rebecca Plummer is an herbalist and midwife in Niagara, Upper Canada. Her situation both before and during the War of 1812 is complicated by her feminist attitude and activities to help other women, both of which run counter to the colonial establishment.

Rebecca’s story is based on real people and events, blended with fictional elements, told from the lesser-known Canadian point of view.

This novel should appeal to readers of colonial period fiction such as Sara Donati’s “Wilderness” series or Napoleonic War era fiction like Bernard Cornwell’s “Sharpe” series!

Writing is Fun

poetry & stories

I’ve been writing things since I can remember, hard on the heels of the length of time I’ve been reading. It seems they go together pretty well.

Upon gaining my freedom from the day job (sometimes called “career”) I finally had enough time to get down to it seriously. Not that I had stopped entirely, but lacked the mental energy to put what was needed into large projects.

In these pages you’ll find a list of my published poetry, some of which have direct links, as well as published stories. I hope to expand my offerings in the near future. Meanwhile, I’m starting up a blog that will deal with some of the projects I’m working on, and other things, like book recommendations, gardening tips, music, recipes. Anything at all, really.

Enjoy!
